Women Entrepreneurship in Technology by Tara Lemmey

There is a significant gender gap in entrepreneurship. According to statistics by the Kauffman Foundation, women account for only 35.3% of the entrepreneurial activity in the US. This is even more pronounced in the fields of science and technology, where only 5.65% of women faculty obtain patents on their research (compared to 13% of men), often considered a precursor for starting a firm. Of Science Advisory board members serving in high-tech firms, only 6.5% are women.

And then there is Tara Lemmey.

Tara Lemmey is an American entrepreneur, technology expert, and innovation strategist. She is CEO of Net Power & Light, a San Francisco-based technology start-up developing immersive experiences for the Internet. She has co-authored more than 10 patents. In addition to Net Power & Light, Lemmey is chairperson of LENS Ventures, a strategic innovation company that works with leading institutions in creating next markets. On Oct. 10^th Tara will be visiting Özyeğin University and sharing her experiences as a women entrepreneur in technology, challenges and hopes, while also discussing new trends she sees in the technology field. Join us for an open talk and Q&A session with Tara as we explore how to fill the gap and encourage a new generation of women technology entrepreneurs.
