Management Information Systems

What is Management Information Systems?

Management Information Systems is a field of study that focuses on the integration of information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of an organization. Organizations use information technology solutions to improve existing business processes or to create new business models. Organizations also rely on their information systems to collect, process, and distribute information to support decision making.

Students who specialize in MIS study the fundamentals of information technology and how they can use information technology solutions to create value in organizations. Students also explore how to design and implement information systems strategies of an organization to fulfill its strategic goals.

Why Specialize in Management Information Systems?

Information systems are crucial for acquisition, storage, dissemination and management of information, which is one of the most important assets of an organization. In today’s technology-driven business environment, all organizations in virtually all industries depend on the capability of their information systems to compete, survive and grow. Organizations need individuals who can understand their unique needs and use technology solutions to solve their business problems.

The analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems require a combination of strong technical and business knowledge. Students who specialize in MIS understand how technology supports business objectives and apply technology to create competitive advantage for organizations. The demand for MIS graduates is rapidly increasing and is expected to continue to increase in the future as well.
