How can I apply for the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program?

Applications should be made to the International Office of the University. The Directorate of the International Office will inform you about the outcome of your application. If you are considered for the program, you will be asked to attend an interview (either via Skype or in person) and write an essay on gastronomy and culinary arts - related topic.

Is the English Preparatory Program required?

As all our courses are delivered in English, students that fail the English Proficiency examination must attend the English Preparatory Program in order to start their undergraduate programs and comprehend their undergraduate courses.

Could you give some information about the uniform set, knife set and kitchen equipment that need to be acquired by students?

Students need to acquire their uniform sets from the contracted company when culinary courses start at the beginning of the 2nd term of the first year of the B.Sc. degree program. The cost of the uniform set is 2100.00 TL. (VAT included) for the academic year of 2023-2024. Due to the requirement of coming to each culinary class with clean and ironed uniforms, students are advised to have more than one uniform set.

Students need to obtain their knife sets from a company recommended by the University when culinary courses start at the beginning of the 2nd term of the first year of the B.Sc. degree program. The cost of the knife set is 767.00 Euro (VAT included) for the academic year of 2023-2024.

Students need to acquire their kitchen equipment (kitchen scales and shoes) that comply with the standards set by the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, when culinary courses start at the beginning of the 2nd term of the first year of the B.Sc. degree program.

Could you give some information about personal hygiene rules in the kitchen?

Applied courses will be carried out within the framework described by the public authority for Covid-19 New Normal rules.

For personal hygiene, students are required to attend the kitchen classes in full uniforms including a hat, neck tie, chef jacket, name badge, apron, chef trousers, dark-colored plain socks and kitchen shoes. Jackets and trousers are also compulsory for demonstrations.

Students are responsible for their uniforms cleaning.

Long hair should be tied back.

Nails should be short, trimmed and clean.

No excessive make up, perfume or nail varnish (including the transparent ones) are allowed.

No jeweler and watches are allowed. The only item permitted is a plain wedding ring.

All the neck ties and scarfs -if used- should be white and made of inflammable material.

Male students with moustache and/or beard must be fully shaved due to hygiene requirements. Those who have a valid reason have to submit a petition to the attention of the Directorate of the School of Applied Sciences. Subject to approval of their requests, they will be allowed to use a “food production balaclava hood or alike” throughout the practical courses. Violation of fully use of the above mentioned mask and other rules of hygiene and sanitation will cause dismissal from the practical class. There will be no make-up for such forfeiture.

Are we going to graduate from the university as Özyeğin University graduates or Le Cordon Bleu graduates or both?

When you graduate from the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Degree Program, you will be granted an undergraduate diploma issued by Özyeğin University and a certificate signed by Le Cordon Bleu International.

Do you provide ring and shuttle services to Çekmeköy Campus?

There are shuttle buses leaving every hour from our Çekmeköy Campus and Altunizade during the term times.

In which areas can I pursue my graduate studies upon my graduation?

Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Degree Program graduates predominantly pursue their graduate studies in master of business administration (MBA), tourism administration, or economics. You may also choose a different field for your graduate studies. To pursue your graduate studies, you will be required to submit the necessary applications and pass the necessary interviews administered by the relevant universities.

Could you give some information about internships? Are they required?

Our internships seek to offer you hands-on experience to help you put your theoretical knowledge into practice and help you familiarize yourself with the industries. When you complete the required credits for internships, you must complete two (2) summer internships.

Students with outstanding performance during their internships are usually offered jobs before they graduate from their undergraduate programs.

Where will I complete my internships?

You will complete your internships at the 4 and 5-star chain hotels and prestigious restaurants in Turkey or abroad (including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Kempinski Hotels and d.reams Group Restaurants), in particular at the Swissotel Hotels & Resorts and The Marmara Collection Group that signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Özyeğin University in a quest to offer preferential treatment for Özyeğin University students for their internships. Who will determine the host institutions for internships? And how?

Host institutions will be contacted by our Internship Coordination Office. The Internship Coordination Office will arrange internship quotas and announce available internship positions to our students. Students will be admitted through interviews held by host institutions. Our faculty members will monitor students’ performance on the job during their internships.

What are my career opportunities upon graduation?

Our curriculum is enriched with courses on marketing, business administration, accounting, finance, human resources and statistics, which are offered in addition to our industry-specific courses. Therefore, our students may opt to start their career by working in a food & beverage related department at 4 or 5-star hotels and gradually rise up to general management positions or they may start their own restaurants or take up managerial positions at prestigious restaurants. What is the maximum period of study?

As per the rules and regulations of YÖK (The Council of Higher Education), each student is required to complete the program within seven (7) academic years (14 academic semesters). The Preparatory English Program is not included in the maximum period of study.
