Activities for the foundation of Özyeğin University were initiated by the Husnu M. Özyeğin Foundation in the autumn of 2005.
During the foundation activities, research was conducted which involved more than 500 individuals including businessmen, professors, and university and high school students as well as a study entitled "Developing Sectors and Professions in Turkey and in the World". Taking the results of these studies as a baseline, debates were conducted on the basic values and vision of the university with all stakeholders within the framework of design activities carried out with ARAMA Participating Management Consultancy. As such Özyeğin University has started to delineate its vision in various workshops with the participation of over 300 people including businessmen, professors, university students and new graduates.
Within the framework of the vision thus determined, Özyeğin University aims to contribute to social development by producing creative, original and applicable knowledge with its modern education system, its innovative structure integrated with life and its education programs focusing on the service sector.
In line with these objectives, Özyeğin University founded officially under Law No: 5656, which was published in the Official Gazette No: 26526 on 18 May 2007, welcomed its first students in September 2008 at its Altunizade Campus, Istanbul and thus took the first step to becoming a prestigious campus university in Istanbul within a few years time.
