Özyeğin University is a newly established, private and not-for-profit university in Istanbul, Turkey, where language of instruction and research is English. We aim to serve as a model university and a center of entrepreneurial learning in Turkey, and its region, through our progressive educational programs and creative research projects tightly bound to the specialties of the Turkish economy and society. We are aware that a first-class institution of higher education needs the best students, faculty, and facilities. We will strive for the highest levels of excellence by making the necessary investments in all three of these areas.
The university was incorporated in May, 2007, and its first group of students will commence their programs in September, 2008 at a temporary campus in Altunizade, Istanbul. It is expected that the university will move to a permanent campus in 2011-12 and grow into an 8,000-student institution during its first decade. The university was established by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, which began planning for the university in the fall of 2005. Mr. Özyeğin is one of the self-made and highly successful entrepreneur and businessman of this era, and the owner of Fiba and Fina Holdings, sizeable conglomerates in Turkey. It is envisioned that this university will be his most important philanthropic activity in the service of education in Turkey, and a lasting legacy for the nation as a whole. Özyeğin University invites applications for faculty positions at all ranks in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. The following focus areas are emphasized for each of these three disciplines, although exceptional candidates in all topical areas would be considered. Electrical Engineering focus areas include signal/image Processing, VLSI, electronics, antennas and microwaves, wireless communications, computer networks and biomedical applications. ME Areas cover all fundamental disciplines, particularly energy, energy systems and devices, manufacturing in traditional and emerging areas, including nano- and micro-scale applications, advanced materials, sustainability, robotics, automotive, transportation and biomedical applications. CS focus areas are software engineering, networking, security, artificial intelligence, graphics, databases, human-computer interaction, computer vision and perception, robotics, bio-informatics, high-performance computing, and computer systems. High priority will be given to the originality and promise of the candidate's work. Applicant's entrepreneurial interests and experience will be a big plus.
A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science or a closely related discipline, evidence of the ability for establishing and maintaining a research program and a strong commitment to teaching are required. A successful candidate will be expected to create a research program, supervise Master's and Ph.D. students, obtain competitive grants, and teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. The compensation package will be commensurate to skills and rank, and will be highly competitive.
