“We Study Together” Named Among the World’s Best Projects
The winners of the #EUvsVirus Hackathon have been announced! #EUvsVirus Hackathon is a pan-European hackathon hosted by the European Commission to make life easier and design the “new normal” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 20,000 participants from 114 nations from across the world took part in the hackathon, competing with the innovative solutions they developed to tackle the challenges in technical, political, and social domains within the context of the coronavirus crisis. #EUvsVirus Hackathon addressed around 20 potential coronavirus challenges, including fast producing of protective materials/equipment, increasing production capacities, and transferring PPE from one country to another.
Organized from April 24 through April 26 #EUvsVirüs Hackathon brought together a large number of experts from across the EU and beyond to develop new ideas to help find solutions for the COVID-19 crisis. Participants scrambled to develop solutions to problems in a wide array of areas from education to health, social and political cohesion to remote working. During the hackathon, Dr. İsmail Arı, Director of the Technology Transfer Office at our University, gave a presentation, summarizing the challenges in the “Remote Working & Education” area.
Among 2,160 projects, 117 projects with pioneering solutions have been selected and awarded by the European Innovation Council. The project #WeStudyTogether, whose project team also includes Dr. Ebru Kılıç from our university, was among the top 117 projects selected by the Council. #WeStudyTogether received 1,000 Euros of cash prize in the “E-learning methods and tools” category, and qualified to attend the “Matchathon” on May 22-25. The #WeStudyTogether project serves as an online peer-to-peer learning community platform for university students who no longer have access to shared study spaces and pursue their studies at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform gives university students the opportunity to study together online.
