We Rank 4th in Night Photography Rendering Challenge

As the only team attending from Turkey, our team that featured Özyeğin University academicians and students ranked fourth among 29 teams from 7 countries in the Night Photography Rendering competition which was held as part of the event “New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop and Challenges on Image and Video Processing” organized under the auspices of IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition CVPR’22. Xiaomi Inc., Nanjing University and Nankal University which represented China ranked third. While Özyeğin ranked fourth, University of Milano came fifth. Huawei took the sixth place. The competition is intended promote R&D on artificial intelligence models that can be developed for higher quality night photos with the ultimate goal of drawing the attention of researchers to this field. As insufficient light and many other related factors adversely affect the quality of night photos, the competition aims to increase the image quality with artificial intelligence models to be used for post-processing.

Following the first phase of the competition which took place from February 1 through March 22, 2022, the results were announced on March 31, 2022. The studies presented in this competition and the relevant details will be presented during the workshop to be held in New Orleans, US, on June 19, 2022. The competition featured leading figures from the industry and the academia, including Xiaomi, Huawei, National Taiwan University, the University of Milano-Bicocca, Wuhan University of Technology, KAIST, and Nanjing University. The OzU team ranked fourth among all competitors as a result of both secret public voting and professional photographer voting, while also making positive contributions to the computer science literature on the subject.
