SKILLS MANAGEMENT: WHO GOT THE THRONE?

STUDENTS OF WHICH FACULTY GOT THE THRONE?

A prerequisite for the compulsory internships, the Skills Management course was once again full of almost Game of Thrones type excitement with its mind-blowing weekly quizzes. Now that they are all over, which faculty’s students were the top scorers (all questions answered correctly) and got the highest average in these quizzes, hence the throne?

In the Skills Management course, the distribution of students was as follows:

SEC 202 (Skills Management)-English: 527 registered students

  • Architecture and Design: 91 (%17)
  • Applied Sciences: 28 (%5)
  • Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences: 23 (%4)
  • Business: 125 (%24)
  • Engineering: 204 (%39)
  • Social Sciences: 56 (%11)

SEC 204 (Yetkinlik Yönetimi)-Turkish: 143 registered students

  • Architecture and Design (Architecture Program in Turkish): 42 (%29)
  • Law: 101 (%71)

Students in both classes were given a quiz about a skill on LMS every week. The weekly participation in quizzes, which consisted of five questions adding up to a total of 10 points for each quiz, ranged from 72% to 91%, and the skills covered were as follows:

  1. 21st Century Skills and Employability
  2. Effective Communication
  3. Teamwork
  4. Networking
  5. Negotiation
  6. Time Management & Productivity
  7. Entrepreneurship & Entrepreneurial Skills
  8. Leadership
  9. Problem Solving & Decision Making
  10. Analytical & Critical Thinking

“Mind-blowing weekly quizzes

In these courses, the majority of the quizzes that are conducted through the LMS are composed of multiple choice and True/False type questions. The answers to the questions are not found directly in the materials presented through the LMS. For most of the questions, in addition to remembering some relevant information, it is also necessary to draw conclusions that are specific to the situations given in the questions considering the relationships among the information as well as the integrity of the issue at hand. Students are required to answer the questions based on the information provided to them. Anyone who does not take the course can claim that some other choice is the correct answer for any given question, which does not concern the assessment of this course. To give you some idea, you can see three sample questions from the quizzes, which qualify to be called “mind-blowing” considering the percentages of the students who correctly answered them (interestingly all three of them are True/False type questions). What would be your answer to these questions? (The correct answers are provided at the very end.)

And the throne? Which faculty's students got it?

AVIATION and AERONAUTICAL SCIENCES STUDENTS!

They got the highest average among faculties in five of the ten quizzes and are also in the lead among other faculties with regards to the percentage of students who answered all the questions correctly (top scorers). Congratulations! As Learning Office, we would like to congratulate all our students who have taken the Skills Management course this semester for their efforts and wish them every success in their internships.
