Biography

Dr. Turkkan received her PhD from University of Massachusetts Amherst (2019) in Political Science. Her doctoral research is in the field of political theory, focusing on the relationship between urban provisioning and sovereignty. She continues to work on political economy of Turkish agriculture, Istanbul's provisioning and urban-rural dynamics, role of agriculture in liberal political thought and critiques of capitalism. Her two most recent research projects 1) explore conceptualizations of citizenship and democracy in Istanbul's alternative food networks and 2) place Istanbul's food banks within a necroeconomic/political framework
