Gürkan Sert graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Law (1999). He completed his master's degree (2003) and doctorate education (2007) at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical History and Ethics (2007) and received the title of Associate Professor (2014). Sert has published works on "patient rights", "privacy of private life in health", "reproductive rights", "medical law".
Gürkan Sert has worked as a trainer and consultant in patient rights, reproductive rights and health law projects carried out by non-governmental organizations, the Ministry of Health, local governments, and the Istanbul Bar Association. Gürkan Sert, who has also worked as a coordinator in projects supported by UNFPA, continues his duty as the General Secretary of the Turkish Bioethics Association.
Marmara University. Gürkan Sert, who is a faculty member at the Faculty of Medicine, also teaches master's and doctorate programs at Medipol University and undergraduate programs at Acıbadem University. Between October 2018 and October 2019, he served as Visiting Lecturer at the Canadian Alberta University Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry John Dossetor Helath Ethics Center.
