Faculty of Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences – Aviation Management Program Assistant Professor Dr. Luis Martín-Domingo Concludes Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) AZERO Project with DCU Presentation
Istanbul, October 2026. Dr. Luis Martín-Domingo, Assistant Professor at Professor at the Faculty of Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences – Aviation Management program and former Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow, presented the final outcomes of his two-year research project, Aviation Zero Emissions 2050 (AZERO), at Dublin City University (DCU) School of Business on September 2, 2026.
The presentation marked the formal completion of the AZERO project, which ran from September 2024 through August 31, 2026. During the session at DCU, Dr. Martín-Domingo shared key findings on aviation decarbonization with an engaged audience of researchers and faculty members, including project co-supervisor Prof. Marina Efthymiou, an expert in sustainable aviation.
Dr. Martín-Domingo, who was recently named Researcher of the Year by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ireland (CILT), conducted the interdisciplinary research under the supervision of Prof. Marina Efthymiou (DCU) and Associate Professor Miguel Mújica Mota (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences).
About the AZERO Project
Supported by the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship, the AZERO project focused on evaluating how the aviation industry can align with the European Union’s Green Deal target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
Key highlights of the research include:
- Greenhouse Gas KPI Mapping: Assessing evolving EU regulations and their impact on key performance indicators across the airline industry.
- System Dynamics Simulation: Utilizing real-world airline emission data alongside ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitments to simulate traffic and emission scenarios for 2030, 2040, and 2050.
- Feasibility Analysis: Evaluating the practical feasibility of commitment roadmaps pledged by international airlines to reach net-zero goals.
Reflecting on the completion of the fellowship, Dr. Martín-Domingo expressed gratitude to his two supervisors and collaborators at DCU and AUAS for their guidance throughout the two-year journey.
