The Faculty of Architecture and Design at Özyeğin University Welcomes the Award-Winner Architect and Professor, Avi Friedman

Professor Avi Friedman, one of the top 10 people “most likely to change the way we live”, and one of the world’s most influential professors of architecture, will be the guest of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Özyeğin University. Professor Friedman, also the recipient of the United Nations World Habitat Award, will meet the Özyeğin University students and faculty at a series of workshops and the conference at Bomontiada on April 26 to share the world’s most innovative ideas and new developments in housing design.

Over the two days, Professor Friedman will give workshops entitled “Thinking Outside the Box on Housing: Designing for Growth and Change”. He will also share the world’s most innovative ideas and developments in housing design at a conference with the same title at Bomontiada -ATÖLYE in the evening of April 26.

“We welcome a highly influential scholar and researcher in flexible housing development,” said Prof. Dr. Orhan Hacıhasanoğlu, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Özyeğin University. “Prof. Friedman will share his research results on flexible and adaptable housing with students, architects, and academics. This is a significant event and great contribution to our country, where the construction sector is a pioneer for growth and development. Our university’s and faculty’s international collaborations present valuable opportunities to discuss and observe the research results of the R&D leaders in the construction sector, which open up new horizons for all the stakeholders and propel new R&D events in the Turkish construction sector.”

About Prof. Avi Friedman:
Avi Friedman obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from the Israel Institute of Technology, and his Masters of Architecture from McGill University in Montréal. He received his Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal. In 1988 he co-founded the “Affordable Homes Program” at the McGill School of Architecture, where he is a Professor. Prof. Avi Friedman is also an Honorary Professor at the Lancaster University in the UK. He is renowned for his housing innovations, especially his “Next Home” and “Grow Home” concepts. Prof. Friedman has authored 18 books and written a syndicated column. Dr. Friedman is the principal of Avi Friedman Consultants, Inc. and the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the ‘Manning Innovation Award’ and the ‘United Nations World Habitat Award’. In 2000, he was included in the list of 10 people “most likely to change the way we live”.
