New EU Project “procuRE” Beings

The project "procuRE: re-commercial Procurement of Breakthrough Solutions for 100% Renewable Energy Supply in Buildings" co-run by Özyeğin University and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has been awarded a research grant under the European Commission’s Horizon2020 Program. Launched in December 2020, the project will support renewable energy applications with a 7 million Euro of R&D investment.

The project is conducted by Assistant Professor Touraj Ashrafian, Assistant Professor Neşe Ganiç Sağlam and Assistant Professor Ece Özdemir at the Building Materials and Physics Laboratory at the Faculty of Architecture and Design under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. A. Zerrin Yılmaz.

The project aims to provide 100% renewable energy to existing public buildings located in different cities across the European Union.  To this end, a set of public buildings owned by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was selected as pilot buildings, where several R&D firms are expected to develop innovative and original renewable energy systems. The developed systems will be purchased through a tender process and will be implemented in the selected public buildings. Meanwhile, OzU faculty will conduct the necessary studies to transform the electricity supply of these buildings into 100 percent renewable energy.
