Our Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk Attends the Certificate Ceremony for 4th Term WOB Graduates

The 4th term graduation ceremony of the Certificate and Mentorship Program organized by the Women on Board Association Turkey (WOB) took place at Özyeğin University on Saturday, October 16. During the ceremony attended by Murat Özyeğin, Member of the Board of Trustees of Özyeğin University and 4th Term President of the WOB Advisory Board, and Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk, Rector of Özyeğin University, 60 women executives received their certificates as a testimony of their successful graduation after 18-month training.

The ceremony began with the opening remarks of Ms. Hande Yaşargil, WOB President, and Mr. Murat Özyeğin, WOB Advisory Board President. Our Rector Prof.  Dr. Esra Gençtürk also gave a speech during the certificate ceremony. Highlighting the fact that the ratio of women executives should be increased on all decision-making levels in both academia and the business world, Prof.  Dr. Esra Gençtürk shared and discussed the latest data from Turkey and around the globe on women executives.  Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk pointed out that according to the YÖK (CoHe) data, the ratio of female academicians among all academicians in 207 higher education institutions in Turkey has reached %45 but the same does not hold true for the dean or rector levels. “The number of female rectors in Turkey is unfortunately only 16. As a country, we need more women executives on the Dean and Rector levels. I can proudly say that at Özyeğin University, the ratio of women executives in both academic and administrative staff is around %50”, remarked Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Gençtürk also gave information about the ongoing projects our University conducts in the field of education and social responsibility, in particular gender equality, and called for support from the WOB members and executives for the Equal Opportunities in Education Scholarship Program of Özyeğin University.

The ceremony ended with a certificate presentation and group photo session for the 4th term graduates of the WOB Certificate and Mentorship Program.
