We Return from Teknofest with a Gold Medal, a First Place, and Multiple Awards

The Aerospace and Technology Festival “TEKNOFEST”, one of the largest aerospace events in the world, was organized for the fourth time in Istanbul from September 21 through September 26, 2021. The annual festival is intended to raise awareness of technology and science and increase the number of science and technology professionals in Turkey. Özyeğin University faculty and students returned from the technology competitions of the festival with a gold medal, and three bronze medals, as well as a first place, and a third place.

Teknofest 2021 features a series of technology competitions across 35 categories from rockets to autonomous systems and artificial intelligence to underwater systems. Unlike other years, this year, the festival program also included competitions in the fields of Heterogeneous Swarm Simulation, Communication Technologies, Fighter UAV, Artificial Intelligence in Transportation, Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Tourism Technologies, Pole Research Projects for High School Students, Agricultural Unmanned Land Vehicle, and Digital Technologies in Industry. 

During the ISIF 2021 Patent Competition organized as part of Teknofest, Tufan Akba, our PhD Candidate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pınar Mengüç, thesis advisor, was honored with gold medal in recognition of his patent “A Solar Power Generating System and the Method of Generating Electricity and Providing Heat in Such a System”. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Arık and Muhammed Nasır İnan, our M.Sc. alumnus, won a bronze medal in recognition of their patent "Flow Controlled Effective Led Based Lighting System”, while Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal and other co-inventors received a bronze medal in recognition of their patent “System and Method For Speed Estimation, Detection and Ranging Using Visible Light in Vehicles”. Finally, Barkan Uğurlu and Polat Şendur, Assistant Professors at the Faculty of Engineering, and master’s degree students Mehmet C. Yıldırım, Sinan Emre, Mustafa Derman, and Sinan Coruk won a bronze medal in recognition of their patent“A Wearable Lower Extremity Exoskeleton”. In the Travel Datathon 2021 Competition, our master’s degree students Faruk Erdoğan Buldur, Taha Varol, Eren Atsız and Zeynel Batuhan Organ, won first place under the supervision of Associate Prof. Örsan Özener from the Faculty of Engineering, while in the Heterogeneous Swarm Simulation Competition, our master’s degree students Furkan Cantürk, Cihan Eran, and Ayşenur Külünk and our undergraduate student Emre Kenar came in third place under the mentorship of Assistant Prof. Reyhan Aydoğan from the Faculty of Engineering.
