ArGe 250 - Özyeğin University is Making a Difference with Innovative Work

ÖzÜ Robotik Protez Çalışmalarında Öncü

Assistant Professor Dr. Ramazan Ünal and his team from Mechanical Engineering Department at Özyeğin University (ÖzU) aim to improve life quality of individuals in need with 3-degree-of-freedom ankle prosthesis (AnkleMECH), HandMECH and WalkMECH which are foot, hand, and wrist-type prostheses. Having applied for nearly 20 patents to date and developing them with a grant of approximately 20 million Euros, Dr. Ünal has set it as a vision to continue prosthesis R&D and to provide high- tech prostheses to the market, in order to facilitate the lives of people who have lost a limb with these inventions and to provide social welfare. In line with this focus, he carries out strategic cooperation and investment negotiations.

ÖzU on Presidency of the Rep. of Türkiye Defense Industry Agency R&D Projects

A Presidency of Defense Industries’ R&D project titled “Development of Quantum LIDAR” is being brought to life with Aselsan-ÖzU collaboration and technically led by Dr. Kadir Durak from ÖzU Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department. This project funded by the Presidency of Defense Industries and carried out in partnership with ASELSAN and ÖzU aims to develop LIDAR imaging utilizing quantum technologies. This LIDAR will be capable of detecting invisible targets, revealing undetectable entities, remaining immune to jamming, and deception and ultimately reshaping the game on the field.

YÖK University-Industry Collaboration Special Award

Dr. Göktürk Poyrazoğlu, from the Electrical- Electronics Eng. Department at ÖzU, was honored with the ‘University-Business Collaboration Award’ at the YÖK 2022 Outstanding Achievement Awards held during the 2022-2023 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony. The project titled ‘Harvesting Energy Efficiency in the Electricity Distribution Sector (Harvest Phase 2) Efficiency in Transformer (TRAFORM)’ was conducted in collaboration with 8 electricity distribution companies and the Electricity Distribution Services Association (ELDER) with the support and approval of EPDK.

Flavors Emerging With Starbucks-ÖzU Collaboration

As part of the project conducted by ÖzU Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, Assistant Professor Aslı Zuluğ, 4 new flavors prepared with the recipes of department students Metehan Sepici and Özge Beydili, spinach pastrami tart, pumpkin eclairs, chocolate cake suitable for vegan consumption and orange cookies were offered for sale at Starbucks branches.

R&D Environment Supporting Entrepreneurship

In addition to developing innovative solutions for challenging problems and industry collaborations, academics and students at ÖzU are also making a difference through the ventures they establish. With these ventures, R&D-based products and services are commercialized entering both national and international markets.
