Özyeğin University Hosts the IEEE Türkiye Science Awards Ceremony

The IEEE Türkiye Science Awards Ceremony, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), an internationally recognized non-profit professional organization with over 426,000 members across 150 countries, took place on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Özyeğin University’s Reşat Aytaç Auditorium. Hosted by the Türkiye Section, founded in 1989 within the Institute’s Region 8, which boasts 26,000 members, including 5,000 students, the ceremony recognized distinguished researchers and academics for their outstanding academic achievements and exceptional contributions to the field.

During the event, Professor Ayhan Altıntaş was honored with the “IEEE Türkiye Distinguished Service Award” in recognition of his contributions to the establishment of IEEE Türkiye Section and his services as its president. Likewise, Professor Okyay Kaynak was recognized with the “IEEE Türkiye Lifetime Achievement Award” for his pioneering and groundbreaking research over the years, mentorship of students, and distinguished contributions to the field.

In addition, Professor Murat Uysal, the Founding Head of the Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department and Founding Director of the Center of Excellence for Optical Wireless Communications Technologies (OKATEM) at Özyeğin University, and Çağatay Edemen, Assistant Professor in Electrical-Electronics Engineering and Managing Director at OKATEM, has been presented the “Board of Directors Honor Award.” During the ceremony, IEEE Türkiye Section and the Turkish Electronics Manufacturers Association (TESİD) also signed a memorandum of understanding.
