Aviation Management Program - Operations Management in Aviation - İstanbul Airpot Field Visit

Within the scope of the AVM 306 Operations Management in Aviation course offered by the Aviation Management Program of the Faculty of Aviation and Aeronautical Sciences, a field visit to Istanbul Airport (IGA) was conducted on December 25, 2025, under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Sena Biçici. The visit enabled students to observe the operations management topics covered in the course through the lens of a large-scale international airport.

During the visit, students examined the operational flow of baggage handling systems, the coordination role of the terminal operations center, and airside operations from a holistic perspective. The planning, monitoring, and control processes of airport operations were explained through interdepartmental interactions and operational decision-making mechanisms. In this way, our students had the opportunity to directly observe how operations management concepts are applied in practice.

This visit contributed to reinforcing theoretical knowledge through real-world experience, thereby enhancing students’ conceptual awareness of aviation operations and strengthening their ability to evaluate industry practices.
