IAPS-Culture & Space Network ‘Culture and Space Meetings’ 5

The fifth edition of the IAPS-CS Network’s Culture and Space Meetings takes place in memory of Prof. Dr. Orhan Hacıhasanoğlu under the theme “Multiple Ecological Perspectives on Palimpsest Cities in the Anthropocene.” It is organized by the IAPS-CS Network and the Özyeğin University Urban Housing Lab (UHL), and hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and Design.

The program, to be conducted between April and December 2026, comprises an interconnected sequence of activities including an international article selection, national student workshops, a national student idea competition, and a Final Meeting that brings these productions together.

Open to young designers, urban thinkers, academics, and undergraduate and graduate students, this series of events aims to reconsider Istanbul’s multi-layered structure as a palimpsest city within the context of the Anthropocene and to open it up for critical discussion through multi-ecological perspectives.

This multi-phase structure, spanning eight months, aims to establish continuity between works developed across different scales and modes of production while fostering a strong relationship between theoretical discussions and design and experience oriented practices. The Final Meeting, constituting the last stage of the event series, will be structured as an exhibition bringing together the selected papers, awarded projects, and workshop outcomes, thereby providing comprehensive visibility to the overall program.
