Özyeğin University Fencing Teams Deliver Standout Performances at Turkish University Championships

Özyeğin University’s fencing teams achieved remarkable results at the Interuniversity Turkish Championships, earning top honors across both team and individual events. The men’s foil team captured the national championship title, while the women’s sabre team secured a strong second-place finish.

In the men’s foil competition, the Özyeğin team, featuring Baha Baykal Çetinel, Industrial Design senior, Tan Sezer, Business Administration sophomore, and Sarp Öztürk, Industrial Engineering freshman, delivered a dominant performance throughout the tournament to claim the championship. The team’s success extended into the individual standings as well. Baha Baykal Çetinel was crowned national champion, while Tan Sezer earned a bronze medal. Overall team rankings placed Özyeğin University first, followed by Middle East Technical University in second and Istanbul Technical University in third.

The women’s sabre team also put forward an impressive showing, finishing the tournament as Türkiye runner-up. In individual events, Maya Kerkeser, Psychology junior, earned a bronze medal in sabre, while Ilgın Betül Şeker, Electrical and Electronics Engineering freshman, secured third place in épée. In the women’s division standings, Gazi University finished first, Özyeğin University second, and Atılım University third.
