Students enrolled in undergraduate programs where the language of instruction is Turkish will be given an Exemption Exam for the compulsory ENG103 (English I) and/or ENG104 (English II) courses.

Time: 11:30–12:30

Who Can Take This Exam?

You may apply for the exam if:

You have not yet taken ENG103 and/or ENG104.

You are starting your first year of an undergraduate program this semester and did not take the Placement Exam on September 7, 2026.

You took these courses in previous semesters but failed them.

If you have previously passed any of these courses, you cannot take the exemption exam for the respective course.

What Do I Need to Do to Take the Exam?

You must complete the exam application form by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 23. You do not need to be registered for the course to apply.

Applications submitted after 12:00 noon will not be accepted. Applications will only be accepted through the online form; applications submitted by email will not be considered.

Exam Details

Exam duration: 1 hour

Content: Grammar, vocabulary, reading

Number of questions: 70 multiple-choice questions

Please arrive at the exam location at least 15 minutes before the exam. Bring your student ID, a pen/pencil, and an eraser with you.

Exemption Process

Depending on your exam results, you may be exempted from ENG103, ENG104, or both courses.

Based on your exam results, the Foreign Languages School will notify Student Services of your exemption status. Student Services will process your exemption before the end of the add/drop period.

Courses from which you are exempted will appear on your transcript with the grade EW (Waiver with Examination) for the semester in which you took the exemption exam.

Students who receive an exemption may take other courses through the Student Information System (SIS) instead of the exempted courses, provided that these courses comply with their curriculum and do not exceed their credit load.

Students who do not receive an exemption are still required to enroll in and successfully complete these courses.
