The OzU Faculty of Architecture and Design Contributes to the Sustainable Development of Gökçeada

Istanbul Institute of Design of the Özyeğin University Faculty of Architecture and Design has successfully completed the second edition of OzU Gökçeada/Imroz Design Workshops. The results of the workshops were shared with Mr. Ünal Çetin, Mayor of Gökçeada, and other local stakeholders during a meeting held in the Gökçeada Municipality Movie Theatre on Monday, June 29^th, 2015. Gökçeada Design Workshops are the most comprehensive Social Design initiative in Turkey. The workshops are intended to focus on the use of creative and innovative design management to solve socio-economic problems. Prof. Orhan Hacıhasanoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, attended the presentation and search meeting of the workshops.

OzU Gökçeada/Imroz Design Workshops are designed to transform the cultural and natural resources of Gökçeada into value-added products and services through the active participation of local community members with the ultimate goal of contributing to island’s sustainable and environmentally friendly development process. The workshops were organized concurrently in the Zeytinliköy, Dereköy and Eşelek villages of Gökçeada from June 22^nd to June 28^th, 2015. The workshops drew a total of 40 students not only  from Özyeğin University but also from ITU, Anadolu University, Dokuz Eylül University, Atılım University, İzmir Institute of Technology, İzmir University of Economics, and Yaşar University. In addition to the members of the OzU Faculty of Architecture and Design, the faculty members of the University of Edinburgh, MHKM-Munich, and Izmir University of Economics also made valuable contributions to the workshops as workshop managers.
The project was coordinated jointly by Prof. Alpay Er, Head of the Industrial Design Department at Özyeğin University, and Alayça Erözçelik, Instructor at the Industrial Design Department at Özyeğin University. “OzU Gökçeada Design Workshops is the product of Özyeğin University’s social benefit-oriented entrepreneurship philosophy in terms of its design, organization and results”, said Prof. Alpay Er.
