Our Board of Trustees Member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner Bestowed the Highest Professional Distinction by the National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Inventors

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner has been named among the most distinguished researchers elected to the rank of Member by the National Academy of Engineering and to the rank of Fellow by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) in 2016. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner’s election to   NAE Member and NAI Fellow status has been a great source of pride for our University.

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is a private, independent, nonprofit institution renowned as a highly prestigious community comprising only the world’s most accomplished engineers in business, academia and government. Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions conferred on an engineer.  Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to “developing/ implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.” New members will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the NAE’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., on October 8, 2017.

In addition, Dr. Toner was also named as Fellow by the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI). The NAI is a prestigious non-profit member organization composed of U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutions. NAI Fellow status honors those who have made outstanding contributions to innovation in areas such as patents and licensing, innovative discovery and technology, significant impact on society, and support and enhancement of innovation.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner’s main areas of interest are nanotechnology, tissue engineering and biostabilization.
We congratulate Prof. Dr. Mehmet Toner on both accomplishments, and we have no doubt that he will have many more to come in service to society and humanity.
