Associate Prof. Burcu Balçık Wins the Best Paper Award
Associate Prof. Burcu Balçık has been honored with the Best Paper Award by the College of Humanitarian Operations and Crisis Management (HOCM) for her submission to the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), one of the world’s most prestigious societies in management and operations.
The award was presented at the POMS 30th Annual Conference held between May 2-6 2019 in Washington DC. Co-authored by Burcu Balçık from the Faculty of Engineering at Özyeğin University, and Selene Silvestri, Marie-Ève Rancourt and Gilbert Laporte from HEC Montreal, Canada, the article “Collaborative Prepositioning Network Design for Regional Disaster Response” received the “Best Paper” award from POMS this year.
The award-winning paper presents a collaborative prepositioning strategy to strengthen the disaster preparedness of the Caribbean countries, which are frequently hit by hurricanes. The project was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) 2219 Program.
