Biography

Dr. M. Bumin Yenmez joined the Department of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) in July 2023. He is also a professor of economics at Durham University (UK) and a visiting professor at Özyeğin University (Turkey). His research focuses on affirmative action, diversity, externalities, and fairness. Dr. Yenmez has contributed to policy design in several applied settings, including school assignment in New York and Chile and vaccine allocation at the state level.
His work has appeared in leading economics journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Economic Theory, Review of Economic Studies, and Theoretical Economics. Supported by the National Science Foundation and the Australian Research Council, Dr. Yenmez has made influential contributions to economic design. Prior to joining WUSTL, he held academic positions at Boston College and Carnegie Mellon University and conducted research at Microsoft Research-New England.
Dr. Yenmez has also served the profession as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Economic Theory and the Mathematical Social Sciences. He earned his bachelor's degree at the California Institute of Technology and completed his doctorate at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Additionally, he serves as the Associate Director for the Economic Theory Center at WUSTL and a member of the Durham Research in Economic Analysis and Mechanisms.
