Dr. T. Deniz Erkmen got her PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in comparative politics and her BA in Political Science and International Relations from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. Her teaching and research fields are comparative politics and political sociology, involving transnationalism, new middle classes, authoritarianism, repression, protests, and social movements. She has published in academic journals such as Third World Quarterly; Territory, Politics, Governance; Democratization; South European Politics and Society; Current Sociology; and Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism. In 2018-2019 she was an IPC-Mercator Fellow at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin; and in 2023-2024 she was located at the Institute of Criminology in Ljubljana, Slovenia as part of the EU-funded research project SOS4Democracy.
