Assoc. Prof. Gülfer Meriç completed her secondary and high school education at Robert College. She earned her LL.B. degree from Koç University Law School in 2008 with a full scholarship. In 2010, she obtained her LL.M. degree in Private Law from the Institute of Social Sciences at Istanbul University. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Private Law from the same institute in 2015. Dr. Meriç worked as a research assistant in the fields of Maritime Law and Insurance Law at Koç University Law School between 2008 and 2015. Since 2015, she has been a faculty member at Özyeğin University Faculty of Law. She received her associate professorship in Maritime Law in 2024.
Her current work focuses on the digitalization of maritime trade, electronic bills of lading, and the legal dimensions of blockchain technology. She successfully completed, as principal investigator, the TÜBİTAK project "Application of Blockchain Technology in Maritime Transportation in Türkiye: A Pilot Study," and currently serves as a researcher in the TÜBİTAK project "Establishing a Legal Framework for the Digitalization of Negotiable Instruments under Turkish Law."
