Faculty of Business Mandatory Internships Syllabus
The mandatory internships at Özyeğin University Faculty of Business allow you to put your knowledge from your classes into practice, by doing internships in public or private companies. These internships give you experience that improves your theoretical, practical, and personal development.
A. General Information
Completion of the 6 ECTS Mandatory Internship is a graduation requirement for all undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Business.
Internships are valuable opportunities for students to practice and apply the knowledge they acquired during their studies. Therefore, it is in students’ best interest to find internship positions aligned with their program outcomes. It is the student’s responsibility to find internship positions at companies that offer rich on-the-job learning experiences.
It is advisable to exclude companies that limit learning, such as micro-sized companies (fewer than 5 employees), fully remote or online work settings (e.g., home office), or physical tasks (e.g., blue-collar jobs). Many companies have formal internship programs with strict application deadlines. Students may check and evaluate internship opportunities with their Academic Advisors, the Professional Development Office, and the Dean’s Office. All details of the internship (internship company, department, dates, job definition, and learning outcomes are subject to the approval of the Academic Advisor.
The Mandatory Internship consists of two courses. To fulfill graduation requirements, students must enroll during the registration week and complete both courses:
- BUS311: Internship-I (2 ECTS, 4 weeks, 20 business days)
- BUS312: Internship-II (4 ECTS, 4 weeks, 20 business days)
- BUS 311 reinforces the general business knowledge that you have acquired in core courses, whereas BUS 312 supports an advanced competency in our curriculum, namely problem-solving.
- The prerequisites of registering for internship courses are as follows:
- BUS311: Having completed ACCT201 or MGMT202 or MKTG201 or OPER202, and at least 90 ECTS
- BUS312: Having completed BUS102 and SEC201, and at least 135 ECTS
- Both BUS 311 and BUS 312 can be taken in the same semester, provided that students meet the prerequisites.
- Students may complete BUS 312 internship either at the same company that they worked for in BUS 311 or at a different company.
- The internship may be performed in a part-time format (up to 3 days per week, including Saturdays) during fully free business days. If the company operates on Saturdays, students may include Saturdays in the internship schedule, subject to an official document from the company confirming Saturdays as a workday.
B. Internship Process
B.1. Planning the internship timeline
The start and end dates of the internship period should be aligned with the academic calendar. The internship should be completed on the last day of classes. For those who are unable to complete the internship by that time, the very latest day for formal completion of the internship is one week before the “Last Day for Grade Submissions”, subject to the Academic Advisor's approval.
- If these conditions are not met, the internship will not be counted toward the mandatory BUS 311 and/or BUS 312 courses.
B.2. Registering for the internship course(s)
Students must register for the relevant internship course(s) via SIS in the semester in which they plan to complete the internship(s), no later than the end of the Add/Drop period.
- Internships completed without course registration will not be counted as mandatory internships.
B.3. Initiating the internship process
Once the student arranges (applies to and is formally accepted by) the internship company, the student must submit the following documents to start the internship application process:
- Zorunlu Staj Bilgi Formu / Mandatory Internship Information Form, fully signed by the firm, student, and the Academic Advisor
- Öğrenci Belgesi / Student ID Card
- Oturum kartı / Residence card (for foreign students only)
- Taahhütname / Letter of Undertaking filled and signed by the student
- Müstehaklık Sorgulaması / (e-Devlet sisteminden e-hizmetler/ Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu/ Ortak (4A/4B/4C) Hizmetler başlığı altında “SPAS Müstehaklık Sorgulama (Sağlık Provizyon Aktivasyon Sistemi)” kısmından alinan ekran görüntüsünün Beyan ve Taahhütnameye eklenmesi gerekmektedir) (for Turkish students only)
- Teşvik formu / Incentive Form (for Turkish students only)
- Work Permit Exemption (for foreign students only)
The full set of documents should be submitted at the latest 1 week before the internship start date. In other words, the internship may not start earlier than 1 week after submission of the accurate and complete document set to the Dean’s Office. Any delay will be reflected in the internship start and end dates.
- Academic Advisor reviews the “Mandatory Internship Information Form” (Zorunlu Staj Bilgi Formu) and may request changes if needed. The student is responsible for arranging the required changes with the company and resubmitting the form for approval.
- Other documents are reviewed and approved by the Dean’s office. Once the formal SGK procedure is completed, the Dean’s Office emails the “Sigortalı İşe Giriş Bildirgesi” to the student, who then presents the form to the internship company.
- Within the first week, the student must provide the contact details of the immediate internship supervisor to the Dean’s Office, including the supervisor’s full name, title, department, phone, and email address. This contact information is necessary for subsequent communication and for measuring internship performance.
- If the internship end date changes during the internship, the student should notify the Dean’s Office immediately and explain the situation.
- If the student cannot arrange an internship with a company for the registered semester, he/she should withdraw during the Course Withdrawal period. Not withdrawing from the course automatically results in a U (Unsatisfactory) grade, and a "U" on the transcript might prevent a student from being accepted into a minor/double major.
B.4. Completing the internship
- Following the official completion date of the internship, the student is required to submit “Staj Tamamlama Formu" - filled and signed by the internship company, confirming the completion of the internship to the Dean’s Office.
- Within 5 days of the official completion date of the internship, the student is required to submit Internship Report(s) to the Academic Advisor. Details about the structure, format, and content of these documents can be found on the Faculty of Business's Internship webpage. The Academic Advisor evaluates the submitted documents within 5 days following the submission date. If approved, the student receives an "S" (Satisfactory) grade and passes the respective internship course(s).
- If not approved, the student receives a revision request, and the grade will be U (Unsatisfactory). This time, the revised reports should be presented to the Academic Advisor within 3 days. If the revised reports are approved, the student receives an ‘S’ (Satisfactory); if not, a ‘U’ (Unsatisfactory) grade.
- Students whose internships are not completed by the last day of classes but are extended should submit their report within 3 days.
- If the student completes the internship and submits the “Staj Tamamlama Formu” to the Dean’s Office, but does not complete the internship reporting process, he/she will seriously risk receiving an S (Satisfactory) grade from the course. Failure to submit these reports on time, results in a U (Unsatisfactory) grade.
- If the student cannot complete the internship, the student should immediately contact the Dean’s Office. The case will be evaluated, and based on the circumstances, the student may receive an U (Unsatisfactory) grade. The decision is to be made on a case-by-case basis.
- If the student completes the internship and submits both the “Staj Tamamlama Formu” and the internship report on time, but his/her internship supervisor reports serious problems (e.g., non-attendance, behavioral problems, or poor-quality work), the student directly receives a U (Unsatisfactory) grade.
