Architecture Ph.D. Graduation Publication Requirement

For Students Enrolled Before 2025-2026 Fall:

To graduate, at least one of the following publication conditions must be met:

  • Having an English article accepted or published in a journal indexed in SCI-Expanded, SSCI, AHCI, which are applicable for the Architecture, Planning, and Design associate professorship field, OR
  • In a journal indexed in field indexes such as Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, ICONDA (International Construction Database), Design and Applied Arts Index, Art Index, (API) Architectural Publication Index, Ergonomics Abstracts, OR
  • In a journal indexed in SCOPUS, OR
  • In a journal indexed in other international indexes approved by the Department of Architecture, Head of Department.

For Students Enrolled in 2025-2026 Fall and Afterward:

  1. Having an English article related to the thesis content published or accepted in journals* included in the scope of WoS SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ESCI and located in the Q1–Q2 impact quartile in terms of JIF or JCI, or located in the Scopus CiteScore/Scimago Q1–Q2 quartile, or having an SNIP ≥ 1, or
  2. Having an English article related to the thesis content receives a minor revision in journals* included in the scope of WoS SCIE/SSCI/AHCI/ESCI and located in the Q1–Q2 impact quartile in terms of JIF or JCI, or located in the Scopus CiteScore/Scimago Q1–Q2 quartile, or having an SNIP ≥ 1, or
  3. In exceptional cases, having an English article related to the thesis topic published or accepted in another international peer-reviewed journal* approved by the Institute Board of Directors.

*For journals requiring payment to be used in this evaluation, the journal in question must be among the journals announced by the Institute. Journals not included in this list can only be accepted exceptionally with the written approval of the Institute Director.

Application of Changed Publication Conditions:

  • Students who will enter their thesis defense by the end of the summer school of the year 2027 shall be deemed to have fulfilled the graduation publication condition if they satisfy either the previous publication conditions or the new publication conditions enacted by this decision,
  • Students who will enter their thesis defense as of the 2027–28 academic year shall be subject solely to the new publication conditions.
