CEEE’s Future Builders Project Receives EU Grant

The Center for Energy, Economy, and Education (CEEE) has developed the “Capacity Development for Future Builders” project with the support of the Istanbul Governor’s Office, Çekmeköy District Governor’s Office, Çekmeköy Municipality, ENVER and EYODER. The project is aimed at increasing energy efficiency literacy and pioneering for a nation-wide education movement. Launched with the initiative of the CEEE, the project has been awarded a research grant from the grant program “Public Awareness Raising and Capacity Building in Climate Change Project”, which is offered by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of the Republic of Turkey, and the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).

The Future Builders project entails the preparation of a training pack for technical high school students. The 8-month project is aimed at training teachers to teach energy efficiency to students at Taşdelen İMKB, Nesrin Uçmaklıoğlu and Hüseyin Avni Sipahi Vocational and Technical High Schools in Çekmeköy, which is the selected pilot region for the project. The project also entails analyzing the energy efficiency structure of and building a road map for these three educational buildings. Furthermore, as part of the project, several studies will be undertaken on the municipality’s zoning legislation towards higher energy efficiency.

The project will collect data through retrospective and real-time monitoring of natural gas and power consumption, and an analysis of indoor quality parameters. In addition to data collection, the current legislation and curriculum will be reviewed, all of which will culminate into the preparation of a series of guides. These guides will be used to renovate buildings with low energy efficiency (particularly school buildings), add the energy efficiency dimension to the municipality zoning legislation, and develop a new module on energy efficiency for the curriculum of the vocational and technical schools.

Capacity Development for Future Builders or Future Builder in short was officially launched during the Opening Conference held in Ankara on September 27, 2017 with the participation of all of the grant-winning projects.
