Rules Regarding the Right to Additional Examinations/A Grace Period for Students Expelled from University at the End of the 2020-2021 Academic Year Due to the Expiration of the Maximum Period of Study

The rights and responsibilities of students who are enrolled in the undergraduate programs of Özyeğin University and have exceeded their maximum period of study as per Article 44/c of the Law No: 2547 were set out in the “Principles for the Rights and Responsibilities of Undergraduate Students Who Exceed Their Maximum Period of Study” pursuant to the decision made during the Senate meeting 2021/03 dated 08.03.2021. In line with the YÖK letters E-75850160-104.01.01.01-73154 dated 01.10.2021 and E-75850160-104.01.01.01-76443 dated 14.10.2021, it was unanimously decided that considering the pandemic conditions, the following rules will be applicable for undergraduate students who exceeded their maximum period of study and were expelled from the University at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year.

  1. Students who exceeded their maximum period of study at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year before reaching their senior year are not eligible for the right to additional examinations or a grace period.
  2. Students who exceeded their maximum period of study at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year and still continue to exercise their right to additional examinations or a grace period are not eligible for further rights to additional examinations or a grace period.
  3. Students who exceeded their maximum period of study at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year while they were in their senior years are eligible for the right to additional examinations and/or a grace period under the following conditions so long as they submit their applications before January 31, 2022, 16:00pm.

a) Students are granted the right to 2 additional examinations for theoretical courses they have never taken before and theoretical courses they failed, if any, but for which they were never granted the right to additional examinations (excluding PLT-coded courses). These additional examinations are administered in the examination period at the end of the 2021-2022 Fall semester. No additional examinations are granted for courses designated and announced as “applied course” by the University Senate. However, students can be granted a grace period to take these applied courses in the 2021-2022 Spring semester (if the courses are not offered in the 2021-2022 Spring semester, the grace period is offered for the 2022-2023 Fall semester). Students can register for and complete these applied courses during their grace periods. When registering for courses in the grace period (excluding PLT courses, senior protect phase II courses*), pre-requisites/co-requisites are not expected to be met.

b) The right to additional exams is not granted for the courses for which the right to additional examinations was previously granted. Therefore, students who have more than 5 failed courses out of the courses for which they were previously granted the right to additional examinations are not eligible for further rights to additional examinations or a grace period.

c) Students who have more than 5 courses they were unable to complete by the end of the grace period granted to take the additional examinations and/or courses offered in the 2021-2022 Spring semester (or in the 2022-2023 Fall semester if courses are not offered in the 2021-2022 Spring semester) are expelled from the University. Students who were unable to complete a maximum of 5 courses are subject to the principles determined during the Senate meeting 2021/03 dated 08.03.2021.

d) Students who fail to apply for additional exams or complete their tuition payments will be deemed to have exercised their rights to additional examinations, and will not be granted another right again. Students who fail to take the exams at the announced dates will not be granted make-up examinations.

* Respective Courses: IE 402, CS 402, EE 402, ME 402 and all applied PLT-coded courses.
