IR Department Student Classroom Conduct Policy

Esteemed Students,

The Department of International Relations at Özyeğin University upholds the following principles of conduct crucial for establishing an enriching educational environment for all. Active and collaborative teaching and learning are fundamental to the educational process in all IR courses, and these regulations will be enforced across all classes.

  1. Punctuality:

   - Kindly ensure timely attendance for all sessions and demonstrate the courtesy of seeking pardon should lateness arise due to unavoidable circumstances. Tardiness should be infrequent and shall be accommodated only exceptionally. Delayed entry disrupts the fluidity of the lesson and can prove distracting to your peers.

  1. Attendance:

   - Regular presence is imperative for your academic progress. Unjustified absences not only impede your learning but also impact the overall class dynamics. Attendance will be monitored and factored into your course assessment, notwithstanding potential variations in its significance. Compulsory presence is mandated in all classes (refer to the attendance policy below), barring extremely exceptional circumstances sanctioned by your instructor.

  1. Leaving Class:

   - Unless under urgent conditions, refraining from exiting the class once commenced is advised. In case of foreseen early departure, please notify the instructor in advance. Departing the classroom during instructional time perturbs the instructor and classmates, and could be construed as disrespectful.

  1. Phone Usage:

   - Unless for emergencies or pertinent to educational materials, abstain from mobile phone use during class. Excessive phone usage has been linked to detrimental health effects and compromises educational quality. Refrain from non-academic phone activities during class. Messaging, social media browsing, or any form of phone engagement can prove disruptive and disrespectful to both the instructor and classmates.

  1. Attendance Policy Implementation:

   - Effective from the 24-25 academic year, failure to meet the minimum threshold of 70% attendance will result in course failure. This regulation encompasses absences due to illness as well, highlighting the importance of managing health and attendance judiciously.

We trust that compliance with these regulations will cultivate a more constructive and respectful learning atmosphere for all. Your collaboration in observing these guidelines is sincerely appreciated.

Should you have any queries or reservations regarding these rules or the attendance policy, please feel free to communicate with your instructors.

Let us endeavor to ensure successful semesters by working collectively to create a positive and interactive classroom ambiance.
