Orientation Flight Took Place at Hezarfen Airport on September 22

On September 11 and 12, the School of Aviation tested our newly admitted Professional Flight students’ skills through the internationally recognized MollyMawk Psychometrics Test, which is also used by Sun Express for pilot recruitment.  The test aimed to assess our prospective pilots’ audio-visual memory, hand-eye coordination skills and personal characteristics.

Furthermore in a quest to evaluate our  students’ flight skills as well as to detect whether there are any physiological and psychological impediments that might affect our students’ flight performance including aerophobia (fear of flying) or flight anxiety, uncontrollable stress levels, communication problems caused by over-excitement and uncontrollable nausea, our university and our academic partner, Anatolian Stars Flight School (AYJET), jointly organized  a flight orientation program for all our Professional Flight students at Hezarfen Airport on September 22, 2013.

Hüsnü Özyeğin, Özyeğin University Board of Trustees Chair, paid a surprise visit to our Professional Flight program students and shared the excitement of their first flights administered under the guidance of the instructor pilots of Ayjet Flight School. Özyeğin also had a chat with students and highlighted the fact that today, “pilot” is one of the most sought-after jobs both in Turkey and around the world.

Assistant Prof. Hatice Küçükönal, Director of our School of Aviation, also said: “Being a pilot requires special qualifications and therefore we believe that our Professional Flight program must admit students through an Aptitude Test.  However, due to the resolution of the Higher Education Council to place students in the Professional Flight program through central placement, we administer these Aptitude and Flight Test in the pursuit of determining the weaknesses of our students, and accordingly plan their education and help them each successfully complete their Professional Flight programs.”

The Aptitude and Flight Tests intend to determine our Professional Flight program students’ flight skills and abilities as well as weaknesses and areas of development  before they advance to their flight trainings. Thus the exams serve to help our flight instructors plan their instructions based on our students’ personal traits and skills, and prepare them as the most sought-after pilots of the industry.
