Mehmet Arık, our Engineering faculty member, attends two symposia in Bursa as guest speaker

Associate Prof. Mehmet Arık, our Mechanical Engineering professor and director of EVATEG Center, will speak at two different symposia to be held in Bursa.

Associate Prof. Arık will give a talk entitled “Solid State Lighting Technologies: Problems and Opportunities” during the “Lighting” symposium to be organized by Bursa Industry and Business Association (BUSIAD) on November 5, 2014, Wednesday.

The symposium will take place in the Grand Hall of Almira Hotel, featuring industry representatives, faculty members and students from Bursa.

Associate Prof. Mehmet Arık will also give a speech during the International NAMES (North Africa and Middle East Science Centers Network) Symposium organized by the Science and Technology Center of the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.

The International Turkish Science Centers Symposium was held for the first time in the month of May in 2012. The second edition of the symposium will be organized this year on Education. Associate Prof. Mehmet Arık, our Engineering faculty member, will deliver a speech entitled “From Ideas to Products - Innovation Path” on November 8, 2014 within the scope of the symposium.

The symposium will take place in Atatürk Congress Culture Center in Merinos Park, Bursa on November 7, 8 and 9, 2014 to discuss the future of science and technology centers which are established in pursuit of introducing each member of the society to science and technology. Through the positive effects of their efforts, the Science and Technology Centers aim to contribute to the development of scientific culture in Turkey and prepare a new generation of young people who are devoted to science and eager to work in the field of research and development.

Who is Associate Professor Mehmet Arık?

Associate Prof. Mehmet Arık obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 1991 and completed his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Miami in 1996. Associate Prof. Arık received his Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of Minnesota, where he studied “High Flux Heat Transfer” and “Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems” (MEMS).  

In 2000, Associate Prof. Arık joined the General Electric’s Global Research Center as senior scientist, where he was later appointed as a principal investigator for large government projects. As a principal investigator, Associate Prof. Arık established a global research group of 12 researchers.  Dr. Arık's current research interests include electronics cooling, microfluidic devices, energy, medical, defense systems, solid state lighting systems (LED/OLED), photonic systems and Six Sigma.
