Kıvanç Karaman received bachelor's degrees in Economics and Business Administration from Koç University in 2000 and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University in 2008. He was on the faculty at Boğaziçi University from 2009 to 2026 and joined Özyeğin University in 2026. In 2013-2014, he was a visiting scholar at Harvard University. His research examines political economy, institutions, economic history, and long-run economic development. He has received research grants from TÜBİTAK, the French Development Agency (AFD), and Boğaziçi University's Scientific Research Project Fund. Among his honors are the 2016 Science Academy Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) and the 2015 TÜBİTAK Young Scholar Award.
