Biography

Prof.  Dr. Semra Aydınlı received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from ITU Faculty of Architecture and completed her doctoral thesis at the same institution. Semra Aydınlı, who continued her academic studies as a professor at ITU Faculty of Architecture since 2004, retired in April 2014. She has publications in the fields of design theories, architectural criticism, aesthetic experience, architecture and phenomenology, design culture and philosophy, paradigm shift in architecture architectural education and creativity, pedagogical approach to studio culture, ethics in design. She did two research projects about post occupancy evaluations on housing with two different research teams: first project was about a holistic approach to housing problems supported by TOKİ and the second project was about housing and its meaning of inside and outside living environments supported by ITU Research Fund. In addition to several professional projects, she attended urban and architectural design competitions with different teams and received 2 awards and 2 honorable mentions. She was invited as a visiting scholar for teaching first year design studio at Clemson University in the USA (1999-2000 academic year), and invited as a guest lecturer at Westminster University, London (2010 Spring), and invited as a co-tutor critic for Istanbul Studio at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston (2011 Fall), invited as the doctoral jury member of Delft technical University in the Netherlands (2015 Fall) and as a guest lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2016 Spring) She took part in architectural education accreditation studies as a board member and board chairman at MIAK. She completed the supervision of 14 doctoral students and many theses of graduate students. She has 4 books, chapters in 10 international books, chapters 6 national books and many articles in various international and national periodicals.

From 2014 to 2023 she taught as a part-time lecturer in different universities, both in architectural design studios and in theoretical courses. She started teaching as a full professor at Ozyegin University in the 2023-2024 academic year.
