Assistant Professor Positions in the Department of Industrial Design

Özyeğin University (ÖzÜ), a dynamic, innovative, and entrepreneurial academic institution in Istanbul, is accepting applications for full-time Assistant Professor positions. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in research and teaching who are eager to contribute to our university's interdisciplinary academic environment.

Founded in 2007 by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, Özyeğin University is an entrepreneurial research university focused on global impact, student development, and academic excellence. The university offers 25 undergraduate, 36 master's, and 10 doctoral programs across 7 faculties and 3 institutes. The Department of Industrial Design, established in 2013, offers students the opportunity to acquire professional design training and skills through interdisciplinary research, theoretical and applied inquiry, and experimental, critical, and creative perspectives in the fields of product and service design. The department focuses on contemporary design practices required by today's world with a flexible and innovative curriculum that incorporates a user-centered interaction philosophy, strong industrial relations, business/marketing management, and a sectoral focus. Aiming to develop students' awareness of professional responsibility, ethics, and sustainability, the program aims to cultivate innovative and entrepreneurial designers who will contribute to both academic and professional production fields. The department also prioritizes developing collaborations with national and international institutions in the field of industrial design.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Doctoral degrees in industrial design. Candidates who do not have a Bachelor's degree in industrial design are expected to have a Doctoral degree in industrial design.
  •  In addition to experience in Industrial Design project courses, the candidate must possess the knowledge and experience to teach at least two subjects in the following fields: Basic Design, Design Visualization Techniques (Sketch, Modeling), Prototyping, Design Enginering (Manufacturing, Material Technologies), Interaction Design, Human-Centered Design (Ergonomics, UX, UA), Design/Project Management, Design History, etc.
  • A commitment to excellent teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels (Course load: 3+2)
  • Playing an active role in establishing interdisciplinary research and collaborations
  •  Publishing research outputs in internationally recognized academic journals (SSCI, SCIE, AHCI, Scopus indexed) or submitting them for publication to relevant journals and undergoing peer review.
  • Participation in national and/or international research projects is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and presenting innovative undergraduate and graduate courses.
  •  Conduct high-impact research to be published in top-tier academic journals.
  • Actively participate in university-industry collaborations, establishing, developing, and managing such relationships
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students and contribute to the development of the department's academic programs.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members on interdisciplinary research projects and initiatives.
  • Develop a strong research plan to apply for research funds such as TÜBİTAK, Horizon, and ERC.
  • Actively serve the university, professional organizations, and academic communities.
