Deniz Uğur

After graduation in 2021, Deniz (CS) worked as a full time software developer in Siemens in the research and development department for 1 year. In 2022, he started his thesis based master's program in computer sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver, Canada. He is currently working as a research assistant in the field of "Cloud Gaming" in the Network Systems Laboratory of SFU. In the summer of 2023, he will start an internship on "Display and Color Software Engineering" at Apple in Silicon Valley, USA.

Deniz took part in many research projects during his education at Özyeğin University. He contributed to many researches and academic publications by working with Prof. Özkan Bebek in Robotics Laboratory and Prof. Barkan Uğurlu in the Biomechatronics Laboratory.  Prof. Ali C. Beğen and Deniz won various awards for their works in the field of multimedia.

Sena Artarslan

Sena Artarslan (MSc. IE) works as an analytical consultant under the Supply Chain Directorate at KoçDigital. She provides consultancy services by blending her knowledge in both machine learning and optimization to develop algorithms used in clients' supply chains and integrating them into their processes effectively.

With the contribution of the elective courses she took as a senior at Özyeğin University, she developed a simulation model to test the efficiency of being an agile team at RDC Partner as an internship. In her senior year, she contributed to the predictive quality project that predicts defects in glass production with machine learning. After completing her undergraduate studies, she pursued a master's degree in Industrial Engineering at Özyeğin University, where she also served as a research and teaching assistant. During her graduate studies, she worked as a teaching assistant in the Mathematical Modeling and Exact Methods course. Meanwhile, she conducted research on a version of the Inventory Routing Problem under the scope of TÜBİTAK 1001 and successfully completed her thesis on the same topic. She had the opportunity to present her thesis project at the POMS Conference in France.

After completing her master's degree as of September 2023, Sena continues her career journey in business life and provides consultancy to Turkey's leading companies at KoçDigital by developing solutions that optimize supply chain problems.

Cem Anıl Arslan

Cem Anıl Arslan (IE) is a Data Science Expert at McKinsey & Company management consulting firm. In his role, he is managing analytics studies in the energy sector. He combines his analytical expertise in machine learning and optimization techniques with energy sector knowledge to increase the profitability of the plants while also reducing their environmental carbon footprint.

Cem holds bachelors from Ozyegin University with a major in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Computer Science. He graduated from Ozyegin University in 2017 as the valedictorian of his class. Following 2 years of experience in the industry, he persuaded a Master's in Artificial Intelligence from KU Leuven from which he graduated with a magna cum laude degree.

Cem joined the Management Consulting firm McKinsey & Company as a data scientist in 2017. Since then, his focus was in energy sector projects in different countries including Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia and Azerbaijan. Currently, he is the most firm-tenured Data Scientist in the Istanbul Office.

In his projects in the energy sector, Cem uses different machine learning techniques to model complex chemical reactions and utilizes various optimization algorithms to increase profitability via dynamically optimizing process parameters. In a typical study, 3+ years of data from 2000+ different sensors are utilized to understand these complex relationships. As a consultant, Cem's responsibilities also involve developing the right software infrastructure that will enable deployment of the analytical models, design and development of dynamic dashboards to show the results to plant engineers and operators and ensuring the adoption of new tools that come with digital transformation to ensure that analytical solutions generate real impact.

Projects in which Cem was involved enabled analytical-driven profitability increase between 2-7% and reduced the carbon footprint of the plants enabling more efficient operations with reduced energy and feedstock consumption. 2 of the analytical projects in which Cem was lead data scientist was selected as digital lighthouse projects (across the globe) by the World Economy Forum.
