Project Description: This project aims to demonstrate that Unreal Engine, which has recently gained significant popularity, is not only a game development platform but also a powerful tool for physical layer design and modeling of wireless communication systems.

Throughout the project, highly realistic simulation environments will be created using Unreal Engine for radio frequency (RF), optical, and acoustic electromagnetic spectra. These environments will be used to model real-world wireless communication scenarios and to extract critical channel characteristics relevant to advanced communication system design.

In addition, the project will investigate the concept of digital twin creation for wireless communication technologies, focusing on how Unreal Engine can be utilized to replicate physical environments and communication conditions with high fidelity.

Research Intern Responsibilities:

  • Creating realistic indoor and outdoor environments in Unreal Engine
  • Assisting in the modeling of RF, optical, and acoustic wireless communication scenarios
  • Supporting the extraction and analysis of wireless channel parameters
  • Contributing to digital twin development for wireless communication systems
  • Collaborating with the research team throughout the simulation and analysis process

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of wireless communication systems
  • Interest in physical layer modeling and simulation
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine, 3D modeling, or game engines is an asset (not mandatory)
  • Programming or simulation experience (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C++ or similar) is a plus
  • Strong motivation to work in interdisciplinary research involving communications and virtual environments

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding the use of Unreal Engine beyond gaming applications
  • Gaining hands-on experience in realistic wireless channel modeling
  • Learning digital twin concepts for communication systems
  • Developing interdisciplinary skills combining communication theory and virtual environment design
  • Enhancing research and simulation capabilities relevant to next-generation wireless technologies
