Public Lecture: Professor Abraham Marcus

You are cordially invited to the public lecture, organized by Özyeğin University Department of International Relations, entitled 'The Story of Jewish Documents from Late Aleppo: New Light on Communal Autonomy, Legal Practice and Group Particularisms' by Professor Abraham Marcus.
 
Professor Abraham Marcus is Professor Emeritus at the Department of History, and the former Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at University of Texas at Austin.  Prof. Marcus received his PhD in History from Columbia University in 1979.  His research and teaching interests include Modern Middle Eastern politics and history, Arab social history, the Ottoman Empire, Middle Eastern cities and urban life, music cultures of the Middle East, death in history and across cultures, Jews of the Middle East, and readings in Arabic documents and sources.  While his talk at Özyeğin University will be a presentation of a part of his ongoing book project on The Jews of Aleppo: History, Culture, and Legacy, he will also enlighten us about his extensive knowledge about the history of Syria and the region.
 
The event is scheduled to take place on April 28, 2015 Tuesday at 14:40 in room FEAS/AB2 G30, Özyeğin University Çekmeköy Campus.
