The OKATEM team led by Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal Wins the Engineering Impact Award organized by National Instruments (NI)

 

The Center of Excellence for Optical Wireless Communications Technologies, OKATEM, led by Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal has won the  Engineering Impact Award  for RF and Mobile Communications in recognition of their research “Using the NI PXI Platform for LiFi-Enabled Intelligent Transportation Systems” during this year’s  Engineering Impact Awards organized by National Instruments.

The competition has been organized since 2009 under eight categories. The team OKATEM made up of Mr. Burak Kebabçı and Mr. Ömer Narmanlıoğlu under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Murat Uysal applied for the “RF and Mobile Communications” category with their research on the use of Li-Fi technology for vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems. The submission of the team OKATEM was honored with the first prize out of 130 submissions from all around the world under the same category. The award ceremony took place in Austin, Texas, the USA on May 23. On behalf of the OKATEM team, Mr. Burak Kebabçı received the award from Mr. Alexander M. Davern, the President of the Board of Directors at NI.

About the Center of Excellence for Optical Wireless Communications Technologies (OKATEM):

OKATEM, one of research centers at our University, is also Turkey’s first R&D laboratory in the field of optical wireless communications. OKATEM was established in 2015 under the auspices of the Istanbul Development Agency. Through cooperation between the University and private sector, OKATEM aims to create a shared area of use to facilitate the creation and transfer of new knowledge and technologies in the field of optical wireless communications which has a high potential to make breakthroughs in the field of telecommunications. Through these collaborative R&D projects, the center also aims to contribute to the local production of innovative optical wireless communications solutions.
