A remarkable achievement by our Computer Science students in the IEEExtreme Programming Competition

Our Computer Science students Arjen Kılıç, Cihan Eran, and Emir Arditi placed fourth in the IEEExtreme Programming Competition among the university teams participating from Turkey.

IEEEXtreme is a 24-hour programming competition organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity through its more than 423,000 members. This year, the competition was held with 3,350 teams from all around the world, and 69 teams from Turkey.

Now that programming has infiltrated into every sector and in fact every facet of our lives, IEEExtreme stands out as one of the major international programming competitions. Teaching programming not only requires scalable teaching tools but also automated grading. IEEExtreme, in this sense, is a leading event which is capable of grading the programming solutions developed by 10,000 students simultaneously within seconds.

This year marked the 11th edition of IEEExtreme. Over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students competed in a 24-hour time span against each other in teams of three to solve a set of programming problems. Özyeğin University participated in the competition for the first time, and our students placed 273rd in the global ranking, accomplishing an international achievement. This year, the top three winners were EPFL (Switzerland), UESTC (China), and Gatech (USA) universities.
