The first completely domestic CPU chips have been designed at Özyeğin University and manufactured in Silicon Valley

VerySimpleCPU (VSCPU), a microcontroller designed and trademarked by Özyeğin University, has been manufactured at SkyWater Foundry in Silicon Valley through Efabless Corporation under the leadership of Prof. H. Fatih Uğurdağ.

The VSCPU chips have successfully passed rigorous testing. Unlike other domestic CPUs, VSCPU, which belongs to the microcontroller class of processors, also features a domestically developed Instruction Set Architecture (ISA). In addition to being a powerful microcontroller, VSCPU also serves as a valuable tool for teaching computer architecture and has been in use at Özyeğin University since 2012. Thanks to the simplicity of VSCPU, more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students have so far had the opportunity to design a complete CPU and run it on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA).

Prof. Sezer Gören Uğurdağ of Yeditepe University and her PhD alumnus (now at Yongatek Microelectronics), Abdullah Yıldız, also had significant contributions in the development of VSCPU. The chip has been implemented by Burak Çakar, a graduate student at Özyeğin and also an engineer at Yongatek Microelectronics. The C compiler of VSCPU has been developed by former Özyeğin faculty member T. Barış Aktemur and his student Deniz İskender.

Software tools that support VSCPU are available at:
verysimplecpu.org and cpu.tc

Numerous people have contributed to VSCPU and associated projects. Prof. Sezer Gören Uğurdağ of Yeditepe University and her PhD alumnus (now at Yongatek Microelectronics), Dr. Abdullah Yıldız, had significant contributions in the development of VSCPU. The chip has been implemented by Burak Çakar, a graduate student at Özyeğin and also an engineer at Yongatek Microelectronics. The C compiler of VSCPU has been developed by former Özyeğin faculty member Dr. T. Barış Aktemur and his student Deniz İskender. Dr. V. Emre Levent, an Özyeğin PhD alumnus, has been instrumental throughout the development of VSCPU. Last but not least, we thank our previous Engineering Dean Prof. Taylan Akdoğan for believing in the project as well as securing funding for manufacturing of the chips.
