Özyeğin University Prep Student Irem Karamete Receives A Gold Medal From the Mediterranean Fencing
Turkey’s Women’s Fencing Team returned home with a gold medal following the 9th Mediterranean Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship held in Porec, Croatia last week. Özyeğin University Preparatory Program student İrem Karamete also fenced in the championship as part of the Women’s Fencing Team.
The final round of team events were held yesterday and the Turkish women’s fencing team won the championship by earning a well-deserved victory against France. OzU student İrem Karamete, Ayşe Begümham Bilgin and Aslıhan Kayabaş fenced in the Foil, Sabre and Épée categories, respectively. The team placed first by defeating France, one of the most renowned countries in fencing, during the final event. France, Italy and Spain placed second, third and fourth in the championship respectively.
