The 13th Interuniversity Young Criminal Lawyers Congress Held with Universities from the TRNC and Turkey

The Interuniversity Young Criminal Lawyers Congress was held at the Faculty of Law at Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey, on April 21 and 22. The first of its kind in Turkey in terms of its format and comprehensiveness, the congress is the brainchild of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c Yener Ünver, the Dean of our Faculty of Law, who is still in charge of its organization. This year marked the 13th edition of the congress.

The 13th Interuniversity Criminal Lawyers Congress welcomed six faculties of law from all around the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey as well as Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Yener Ünver, the Dean of our Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Özlem Yenerer Çakmut, a member of our Faculty of Law, Merve Selin Şohoğlu, a research assistant at our Faculty of Law, Zehra Başer Doğan, a research assistant at our Faculty of Law. Our Faculty of Law students, Ms. Elif Ergüç and Ms. Elif Pelin Tanverdi, gave a presentation on “The Application of Criminal Norms in Terms of Place”. The congress has been held annually or semiannually since 2007 with the distinguished faculties of law from the Republic of Turkey, Germany, Azerbaijan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

“This congress allows the Faculty of Law students to make presentations on the institutions of criminal law and criminal procedure law, study a specific topic, and develop their presentation skills”, said Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Yener Ünver. “The congress also allows the Faculty of Law students to learn scientific research methods, and acquire the necessary skills to put their research in writing using the law technique, and present it before hundreds of students and academics. The students prepare for this congress both theoretically and practically for 3 to 4 months under the guidance of their professors and assistant team coaches. The congress is organized under the auspices of and with the presentations of distinguished universities. This year, seven universities attended the congress. Among participants are also universities from the TRNC, Germany and Azerbaijan. The congress is also open to all legal professionals from every branch of law. Each session is ensued by a Q&A session during which each legal professional has the opportunity to make further contributions to the discussions with their questions and additional explanations. I believe that the comprehensive series of congress are highly useful in helping the students reinforce their professional knowledge and contributing to their 360-degree development.”
