Mechanical Engineering Seminar: How and what will we manufacture tomorrow?

Mechanical Engineering Seminar

Date: 08.05.2019

Time: 13:40

Place: AB1-509

Speaker: Adam Clare

How and what will we manufacture tomorrow?

This seminar will explore the manufacture of some of the high-value products (jet engines, airframes, biomedical implants and tooling) that our society is dependent upon. The demand for these is set to rise across the world and in order to meet this demand, we must develop more efficient and more effective methods of manufacturing.

In this seminar, I will highlight several examples on materials processing technologies (plasm/electron beam processes and electrochemical techniques, non-traditional manufacturing) that have the potential to drastically enhance the performance of components and equip designers with entirely new design freedoms.

Bio

Adam Clare is a Professor of Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nottingham. His research is on the use of various manufacturing methods to arrive at net shape while inducing favorable material properties and generating new surfaces on engineering components. He is particularly interested in developing new manufacturing methods and materials for use in the high-value manufacturing sectors including aerospace and biomedical engineering.
