Activities

Activities

The activities of CHARM are threefold: First activity is to stimulate interest in European migration and mobility governance among students at Ozyegin University with a new course on Migration and Mobility within Europe. Since 2013, the Chair holder has been teaching related courses on the subject, like introductory courses on political science, European Union, as well as international migration. Given the interest in these earlier courses not only from the students of social sciences, but also from the students of other faculties such as business and engineering; a new course on migration and mobility, which is a highly debated topic of public interest, will surely be welcomed by the Ozyegin student community with enthusiasm.

Second group of activities aims to initiate and facilitate discussions for multiple stakeholders in five workshops and a final conference on the challenges of the governance of the EU and its role in migration and mobility in the light of crises, challenges, as well as opportunities to the European Project. With the rise of populism all around the world, there is a tendency to connote migration as a negative subject matter. In fact, migration and mobility are also about chances and change, which needs to be discussed further among students, researchers, academics, civil society representatives, policymakers, as well as other professional and specialized agencies.

Third group of activities aim is to increase cooperation and understanding on European integration, migration and mobility through conversations among the youth. Thus, especially on days of distinctive occasions, e.g. Europe Day, International Migrants Day, and/or World Refugee Day, CHARM will be bringing young people from different backgrounds together to discuss subject matters in relation to migration and mobility in three World Café events, which can be defined as organised colloquial practices for information sharing where groups of students converse about a topic at different tables, and changing tables periodically (for more information on the method, please see: http://www.theworldcafe.com).

CHARM adopts a holistic approach to build a platform that equips the youth, academics, policymakers, and civil society with a better understanding of internal and external features of European integration and the role it plays in governance of migration and mobility within Europe, also with a focus on Turkey in a diversely theoretical, strategic and applied scope.
