Research Projects

Dr. Gökçe Elif Baykal from the Department of Communication and Design has been accepted for funding of 1,650,000 TL under the TÜBİTAK 1001 - Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program.

Dr. Gökçe Elif Baykal, a faculty member in the Department of Communication and Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, has received funding for her project titled "The Relationship Between Spatial Thinking Skills and Object Interaction in Virtual and Augmented Realities: Research-Supported Educational Game Design Study for Low-Sound-Energy Children" under the TÜBİTAK 1001 - Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program. Undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers will be able to work as scholarship recipients in this three-year project.

Our student Dilara Albayrak has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program for her project titled "Technological Approach in Education: Earthquake Survival Kit Preparation Game Project".

Darya Mahçup, a student from our department, presented a project titled "Analyzing Grains: An Interactive Documentary on Food and Migration" at the UAES (International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences) conference on September 4, 2024, under the theme "Fortitude in Face of Turmoi," in collaboration with Dr. Zeynep Merve Uygun, a faculty member in the Department of Communication and Design, and Dr. Susan Beth Rottmann, a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology.

This work addresses an innovative pedagogical framework that combines anthropological fieldwork with visual design techniques to enhance undergraduate education and research. The project is based on student experiences from an interactive documentary (collab-doc) titled "Grains," created as part of the COD 301 - Design Studio course taught by Dr. Zeynep Merve Uygun to third-year students. The main aim of the documentary "Grains" is to shed light on the complex relationship between food and migration, to build a visual bridge between students and viewers, and thus to foster empathy towards migrants in Turkey.
