Director' s Message

At Özyeğin University, English is more than the language of instruction; it is the gateway to academic success, global engagement, and lifelong learning. The School of Languages (ScOLa) brings together three complementary language programs—the Preparatory English Program, the Undergraduate English Program, and the Modern Languages Program—each designed to meet the needs of different groups of learners while contributing to their linguistic, academic, and personal development. Together, these programs reflect our shared mission of equipping students with the language competence, academic skills, and confidence they need to thrive throughout their university education and in their future professional and personal lives.

We believe that meaningful language learning happens when students actively engage in the learning process. Rather than simply acquiring language knowledge, our students are encouraged to question, explore, collaborate, communicate, and reflect. Through this student-centered approach, we aim to develop not only proficient language users but also independent learners who take ownership of their learning and are prepared to adapt to an ever-changing world.

Our Preparatory English Program is designed around this philosophy. Alongside developing a strong command of written and spoken English, students strengthen the academic and transferable skills that are essential for success in higher education. Critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, learner autonomy, academic integrity, digital literacy, and the responsible use of technology are embedded throughout our curriculum because we believe these competencies are fundamental to meaningful language education.

We regularly review and enhance our curriculum, teaching practices, learning resources, and assessment systems to reflect current research, educational innovation, and the changing needs of our learners. We also recognize that language learning extends beyond the classroom. Through extracurricular activities and personalized academic support, we encourage our students to continue learning and make English an integral part of their daily lives.

Since 2016, the quality of education at ScOLa has been recognized through EAQUALS (Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services) accreditation, reflecting our commitment to international standards, continuous improvement, and excellence in language education.
