Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use the Psychological Support Unit’s services?
All students currently enrolled at Özyeğin University can use the services offered by the Psychological Support Unit (PSU).
What can I seek support for?
You can contact our unit for support with anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, adjustment to university and residence hall life, academic procrastination, motivation, self-confidence, loss, and grief. These are just some examples; you can also seek support for any experience that feels challenging or that you would like to understand better.
How can I make an appointment?
You can schedule an initial consultation at a date and time that suits you through the Psychological Support Unit Appointment System. Please make sure to complete the consent and application form to finalize your appointment request.
How does the initial consultation take place?
The initial consultation takes place via Microsoft Teams at your scheduled appointment time. Before your consultation, please sign in to Teams using your university account and find a private setting where you feel comfortable speaking.
Will my sessions begin immediately after the initial consultation?
The start date of your sessions depends on your needs, your availability, your psychologist’s availability, and the unit’s current demand. There may be a waiting period during busy times. If your support needs change significantly while you are waiting, you can contact our unit.
What if I do not know what to talk about?
You do not need to prepare what you will say or clearly define your difficulties before attending a session. You can begin with the thoughts, feelings, or experiences that prompted you to seek support. Your psychologist will help you express yourself and explore your needs.
Will the information I share remain confidential?
Confidentiality is a fundamental principle of psychological counseling. The fact that you have contacted our unit, your personal information, and the content of your sessions will not be shared with your family, friends, faculty members, or other individuals or university units without your permission.
However, confidentiality may need to be limited if there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else’s safety, or if disclosure is legally required. In such circumstances, only the necessary information will be shared with the relevant individuals or institutions. Whenever circumstances allow, we will contact you and explain the process before sharing information.
How long does an individual session last?
Individual sessions last approximately 40–50 minutes The frequency and timing of your sessions are arranged together with your psychologist.
How long does individual counseling continue?
Our unit offers a short-term counseling model of up to eight sessions. Depending on your reasons for seeking support and your needs, the process may conclude earlier. If longer-term support or a different area of expertise would be more appropriate, you may be referred to specialists or healthcare providers outside the university. If you would like to receive support again, you can submit a new application to our unit.
What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please inform your psychologist by email at least 24 hours in advance. Advance notice helps us manage appointment schedules and make services available to other students.
If you cancel two appointments without providing at least 24 hours’ notice, your current counseling process will end, and you will need to submit a new application to receive support again.
Is there a fee for psychological support services?
Psychological counseling services provided by PSU are free of charge for Özyeğin University students.

You can discuss the arrangements for consulting the university’s affiliated external psychiatrist with your psychologist during your sessions.
Can I make an appointment for a friend?
Participation in individual counseling is voluntary, so students are expected to make their own applications. If you are concerned about a friend, you can speak with them in a nonjudgmental way and share information about how to apply. You can also contact our unit for general guidance on how to support them.
If there is an immediate safety concern, it is important to contact emergency services without waiting for your friend to make an appointment.
Who can I contact in an emergency?
If you need urgent medical or psychological assistance on campus, you can contact the University Physician / Health Center or the Security Center.
PSU’s appointment system and email address should not be used for emergency assistance. In an emergency, please contact the relevant emergency services directly rather than waiting for an email response or a counseling appointment.
